"CIBR-Thrill of the Grill"
Backyard BBQ Division
Back by popular demand will be our CIBR-Thrill of the Grill
Amateur
Competition! We'll bet that your ribs or chicken are good
enough to compete!
We expect 10-20 teams will compete in this event. We are planning a Saturday cook, with turn in times of 2pm for Chicken and 2:30pm for ribs. Two categories to cook, one $50 entry fee, with a Grand prize for high combined score of $250 and a trophy, and three awards in each category of $75, $50, and $25.
You don't need to be an expert to try out
this competition! For a turn in time of 2pm you'll have to have your
fires hot by at
least 10:30 or 11am, so you can sleep in and leave
Chicago or where ever well after 6am. and do it as a day trip (or come down the night before and join the
party.) Charcoal, wood or gas fired grills will be allowed, any
size. Bring your own grill and tools, ribs and chicken, and
seasonings, rubs, marinades or sauces and you'll be ready to go. We will have a separate area marked off to get you in and set
up. We'll use KCBS standards for judging, and score for
presentation, taste and texture. See the details at the bottom of
the page for more tips an details.
Active team members of KCBS division
teams will
not be allowed. Other travelers with those teams may compete but
will not be allowed to cook in the KCBS team site or on the same
grill with the KCBS entries, i.e. bring another grill and necessary
equipment.
This is your chance to test out your BBQ skills,
hang with the big
boys, and perfect your art while learning from
some of the best... and you might win some bragging rights along the
way.
Contact us for more details or if you have any questions, or use the following form to send us your entry.
| CIBR - Thrill of the Grill Two categories, cook them both. Pork Ribs and Chicken (any part of the chicken-usually thighs, upper wings or breasts, probably not necks or gizzards but hey...) cook them the way you like them, dry rubbed, mopped, just plain grilled, sauced or however. BYO everything, no electricity is provided ( if you wish electricity for overnight - $25 extra with special registration), water will be available nearby, but not provided to your cook space - bring buckets for cleanup and sanitation. We will check in your meat when you arrive. It must be iced, and raw (i.e. not marinated injected or pre-rubbed until after you check in. If you must cure your meat longer, come down on Friday, check in early and you may start anytime after being checked in.) Visit the KCBS website for detailed judging rules and procedures. With the exception of the four meats required by KCBS being only ribs and chicken, our allowing gas BBQ grills to be used, and the turn-in times, this is what we'll go by. Read carefully the section on garnish and added sauces. We will provide a styro tray for you to turn in your entry. You will need to submit at least 6 separate portions (there will be 6 judges scoring your meat) in each category to be judged. Cook a few extra! If you have any questions on rules, our event or questions in general, we'll be more than happy to talk or email things out and help you get in the game. If you like to grill chicken or ribs, give this a try. This contest is for the every day guy or gal... NOT for the pros... you will fit in with any kind of grill! And unless you just charcoal your entry, you'll have a good chance at some bragging rights, plus, You'll have a lot of fun!
