Friday Evening Peoples Choice Competition

We had a lot of fun on Friday last year with our first Peoples Choice Competition. For the most part the crowd enjoyed it and it raised some serious change for our fire department, so with some minor improvements, we'll do it again this year. Our biggest complaint was that many of the "judges" thought they should be getting more. So this year we will invite all of these "Peoples Choice Judges" in to the VIP dinner for some more food.

As we did last year, for those that are interested in participating, we will supply a 3-4 lb pork loin and some basic seasonings. You will have to prepare and cook the entry AT OUR SITE next to the judges turn in area. This means that you will have to bring a portable grill or smoker of some kind to tote up to the Peoples Choice area to cook on, or arrange to share with someone. The health department last year required us to supply all the ingredients and monitor the cooking and serving, and we tried. But admittedly it is difficult to be sure that only the supplied seasonings are used, while we can't condone it, so if you are going to circumvent this rule, please use only normal and healthy added ingredients to specialize your entry.
At turn in time, you will deliver your entry in the foil pans available, preferable cut up in such a way as to provide the most judges with samples of sufficient size and appearance as to gather the most votes possible. We suggest small, toothpick sized "tastes."
We will keep your entries hot on a large gas grill and allow the "judges" to sample your entries with toothpicks and cast their 10 votes in some fashion based on their judgment. You are encouraged to stay close and "encourage the judges to vote for your entry."

The team with the most tickets in their vote can, will split the entry fees with the Arthur Fire Department.

The "Judges" will purchase their 10 votes for $5 a judge, sample the entries, cast their votes and then be invited into the VIP dinner for some hog roast, sides and refreshments.

Send me an email if you wish to participate in this Peoples Choice Competition. Open to any registered KCBS Competition team. There will be 6-8 limited entry openings that you can request when you arrive. No cost to enter, we had a lot of fun last year, and the fire department benefited.

Also, many of the competing teams indicated that they really missed the side dish competition last year so as of now we will plan on bringing back the side dish and dessert competitions also.
